Court Remands Man For Armed Robbery, Attempted Murder In Ekiti

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, has ordered one Ojo Alofe to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for robbery and attempted murder.  

According to the charge, 28 year Ojo Alofe on 22/08/2023 at Ijero Ekiti Magisterial District, around 10:00a.m was reasonably suspected to have committed offence of robbery of a sum of N190,000.00 and attempt to murder a 68 year David Omoleye, punishable under Sections 312 and 241 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Narrating his ordeal in the hand of the defendant to the Police, the victim who identified himself as a welder said, the defendant came to his shop and started threatening to kill me that day, “he removed one of the big irons meant for work and started hitting me on the head, hands, legs and other part of the body, when I became unconscious, some sympathizers took me to General Hospital, Ijero Ekiti. I later learnt he went and brought a cutlass from his house which he used to destroy my welding machine and other equipments. When I regain consciousness, I discovered a sum of N190, 000.00 and handset in my pocket has been missed.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Bankole Olasunkanmi applied for an adjournment for the Director of Public Prosecutions to issue Legal Advice, having sent the original case file to his office, he urged the court to grant the ex-parte application to remand the defendants.

Magistrate Bunmi Bamidele in his ruling said, ‘I find reasonable cause to grant the prosecutor’s application to remand the defendant at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for a period of 30 days pending issuance of legal advice by the DPP, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Ado Ekiti’, he said.

The case has been adjourned till 8/11/2023 for mention.
