A Catholic priest in Amaimo community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, has reportedly shot and killed a boy during a New Year’s Mass at St. Columbus Catholic Church on January 1, 2025.
Reports indicate that the boy, whose name has not been disclosed, was allegedly shot after throwing knockouts into the church premises, an act that reportedly triggered the priest’s reaction.

Police Confirmation and Investigation
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, assured the public that a detailed investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
“We are investigating the matter to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the incident. Further developments will be communicated in due course,” Okoye stated.
