ADC Orders Coalition Members to Quit Old Parties

National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the decision after a caucus meeting in Abuja, stressing that the directive was necessary to avoid further indecision among coalition leaders.

“Though final order has been given to all members to resign membership of other political parties, the caucus was silent on the timeline.”

“All the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primaries,” Abdullahi said.

The move comes as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer, Peter Obi, continue to delay formalising their allegiance to the ADC. Atiku resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party in July but has yet to pick up an ADC card, while Obi is still holding consultations ahead of his 2027 bid.

ADC leaders say the fresh directive is meant to provide clarity to Nigerians.

“The coalition has rested everything concerning the African Democratic Association. That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association,” Abdullahi added.
