EKITI 2026: Oluyede Pledges To Unite PDP Members For Victory, Emerges Governorship Candidate

Oluyede, who hails from Ikere-Ekiti, clinched the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election at the primary held on Saturday, 8th November, 2025 at Vino Event Centre, Ado-Ekiti, the State capital. 

Speaking after his victory was declared, Oluyede expressed deep gratitude to the delegates, supporters and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him as pledged to unite all members and work with his co-aspirants to ensure the PDP’s victory in the 2026 governorship election.

While dedicating his success to all members of the PDP, Oluyede  said no losers in the race but  partners in progress working towards a common goal.

“Together, we have shown that internal democracy is alive and strong in the PDP,” he said.

The candidate commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the primary, applauding the PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Ilya Damagum, and Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for ensuring fairness and a level playing field for all aspirants.

Dr. Oluyede also praised his co-contestants for their maturity and spirit of sportsmanship displayed throughout the exercise. 

“To my fellow aspirants, I salute your courage, dedication, and love for our great party,” said he.. 

Reacting to the outcome, Dr. Funso Ayeni, who came second, described the primary as fair and credible despite minor flaws, stating that any issue would be resolved internally.

The  PDP Chairman in Ekiti, Rt. Hon. Olatunji Odeyemi attributed the successful conduct of the election to divine grace and reaffirmed his commitment to leading the PDP back to power in the state. 

Announcing the results, Chairman of the Electoral Panel and former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, declared that Dr. Oluyede polled 279 votes, Dr. Ayeni 239, and Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun 17, while Mr. Peter Obafemi withdrew from the race before voting commenced.
