Femi Falana, Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has criticised former United States President, Donald Trump, for what he described as a false claim about the alleged killing of Christians in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Falana said Trump’s statement misrepresented the security situation in the country.

The legal luminary explained that while Nigeria has witnessed several violent attacks, it was misleading to suggest that Christians were being deliberately targeted for extermination.
According to him, the statement by the former American leader should rather serve as a reminder for the Federal Government to take urgent steps in curbing widespread insecurity and the activities of gunmen in various parts of the country.
Falana stressed that the Nigerian Constitution places a clear duty on the government to ensure the protection of lives and property, adding that continuous killings across regions point to failure in fulfilling that responsibility.
Trump, in a statement last Friday, alleged that Christianity was under serious threat in Nigeria and claimed that “thousands of Christians” were being killed by “radical Islamists.”
The human rights lawyer maintained that such comments from foreign leaders must be fact-checked to prevent the spread of misinformation about Nigeria’s internal security challenges.
