Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind the suspension of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, saying the era of impunity in the party must end.
Wike, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, said the PDP could not continue to tolerate indiscipline and internal sabotage by some of its members.

“We cannot continue to allow impunity,” Wike said.
The PDP crisis deepened on Saturday when a faction loyal to Wike, led by Samuel Anyanwu, the embattled national secretary, announced the suspension of Damagum and five members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Those suspended include Debo Ologunagba (National Publicity Secretary), Taofeek Arapaja (Deputy National Chairman, South), Daniel Woyenguikoro (National Financial Secretary), Sulaiman Kadade (National Youth Leader), and Setonji Koshoedo (Deputy National Secretary).
Ironically, Anyanwu himself had earlier been suspended by the PDP’s NWC during an emergency meeting on Saturday before his faction retaliated with its own counter-suspensions.
The developments mark the latest twist in the internal battle for control of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, a former Rivers State governor and a key figure in the PDP’s G-5 bloc, accused some governors of using state resources to “destabilize the party” rather than develop their states.
“The problem we are having today in the PDP is that the kind of money in the hands of the governors is so much. I praise the President for allowing so much money to the states — which has never happened before,” he said.
“But instead of using the money for the development of their states, some are using it to scatter the same party that made them who they are today,” Wike added.
He urged the party to restore discipline, stressing that “loyalty to the party and respect for internal democracy” were essential for the PDP to regain its lost glory.
The PDP has yet to issue an official reaction to Wike’s latest remarks.
