The Dangote Refinery will on Monday commence its long-awaited free fuel distribution scheme, beginning with Lagos, the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States.
Announcing the initiative, Dangote Group spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, said the scheme is designed to ease the hardship of Nigerians by providing fuel at reduced prices.

“We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will start with Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective on Monday when the free distribution starts,” Chiejina stated.
According to him, petrol will now retail at ₦841 per litre in Lagos and the South West, while residents of Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta will pay ₦851 per litre. The price slash is expected to stimulate economic activities and ease the financial pressure on households.
Over 1,000 trucks have already been deployed to kick off the programme, with more states expected to benefit as additional trucks arrive in the country.
To strengthen logistics and lower costs, the refinery has also rolled out a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks, part of its plan to deploy 10,000 CNG trucks by the end of 2025.
“Even though we recently noticed how CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our roll-out,” the company said.
The free fuel scheme was initially billed for August 2025 but faced delays due to logistics challenges in China. Despite the setback, Dangote insists it remains committed to its goal of making fuel more affordable for Nigerians.
