Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition as deceptive, insisting he remains firmly committed to Peter Obi and the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Baba-Ahmed, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics recently, warned Nigerians to be wary of the alliance, describing it as “misleading.”
“They are deceiving us,” he said. “I am a Labour Party man, for God’s sake. I am Peter Obi’s man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest in 2027.”
The former vice-presidential candidate also launched a scathing attack on Nigeria’s electoral system, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of “subverting the constitution” in past elections. He argued that electoral fraud remained the root cause of insecurity, corruption, and other national challenges.
“Electoral fraud is right now the single most important issue to be addressed in our life as a nation, even beyond insecurity,” he said. “Insecurity is derived from electoral fraud. Corruption is aggravated by the kind of electoral fraud that we have.”
He added that only a credible, transparent and constitutionally compliant process in 2027 would restore public confidence in INEC and Nigeria’s democracy.
