The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election in Anambra State.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe, who announced the result early Sunday, declared the APGA candidate, Ifeoma Azikiwe, winner with 7,774 votes.
Azikiwe defeated Justice Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who scored 1,909 votes, while Mr Ezennia Ojekwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 1,371 votes. Njideka Ndiwe of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) got 655 votes.
Ekpe commended the candidates for their peaceful conduct and lauded voters for their turnout.
He said, “The candidate of APGA, Ifeoma Azikiwe, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner.”
Azikiwe will now replace the late lawmaker, Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and killed, and will serve out the remaining two years of the tenure.
