British Airways on Friday morning offloaded 58 passengers from its Abuja–London flight due to a faulty aircraft door.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Michael Achimugu, disclosed this in a post on X, saying the incident occurred on flight BA052 from Abuja to London Heathrow.
He explained that after the fault was discovered, seats around the affected door had to be left unoccupied for safety reasons, forcing the airline to reduce the number of passengers on board.
According to him, hotel accommodation was provided for the affected passengers, with 28 opting to return home and 30 accepting the offer.
He said arrangements were being made to airlift them to London on Saturday morning, while urging them to file for compensation.
Achimugu advised travellers facing such situations to first contact NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the airport terminal to ensure their rights to care and compensation are protected in cases of delays or cancellations.
