Obasanjo Library Condemns EFCC ‘Gestapo-Like’ Invasion, Demands Apology

A statement by the Managing Director of OOPL, Mr. Vitalis Ortese, alleged that EFCC officials, led by one “Olapade”, stormed the premises during a private ceremony, shooting sporadically and causing panic.

According to the statement, the organisers of the event had police officers on ground, with additional personnel from Kemta Police Station, Abeokuta, but EFCC operatives did not present a warrant or inform the police of their planned operation.

“The invasion caused chaos and injuries among participants trying to escape the shooting. This is a clear case of violation of fundamental human rights and an infringement on the corporate rights of OOPL,” the statement read.

The management demanded an explanation and unreserved apology from the EFCC, warning that it would seek legal redress and appropriate sanctions if the agency failed to respond.

EFCC, in a post on its X handle on Sunday, confirmed the operation, stating that 93 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested in Abeokuta following credible intelligence.

The agency said 18 vehicles and several mobile devices were recovered during the sting operation, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
