K1 De Ultimate Apologises Over Abuja Airport Incident

The 67-year-old musician, who was accused of violating aviation protocols with a suspicious-looking flask, clarified on Friday that the container held only water and not alcohol as widely speculated.

In a statement personally signed, K1 said he suffers from chronic dehydration and moves around with a water flask on medical advice.

“The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was, to say the least, unfortunate,” he said. “Contrary to the negative narrative being circulated, the flask contained only water — not alcohol.”

He explained that the flask was empty during two security checks and was only filled at the lounge before he moved towards the tarmac. He also maintained that he never boarded the aircraft, dismissing claims that he was “deboarded” as false.

K1 called for a review of CCTV footage to verify his account, while appealing to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet and Nigerians for any embarrassment the incident may have caused.

“I deeply regret the concerns that arose. It was never my intention to disrupt or break any protocol. I have spent over five decades building my name; I won’t destroy it over something this petty,” he said.

The veteran musician, who described himself as a proud cultural ambassador, thanked his fans for their support and promised to continue representing Nigeria positively.
