The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has openly declared how he believes he will die, saying it will happen on a Sunday, after church service and a meal of pounded yam.
Pastor Adeboye made the revelation on Thursday while preaching during the church’s 73rd Annual Convention themed “The Overcomers” at the Redemption City on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Delivering a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions”, the 83-year-old cleric encouraged worshippers to live in good health and to pray earnestly to avoid sickness.
“If you are healthy and pray the way I’m going to ask you to pray, you may never be sick again,” he said.
He then spoke about his eventual departure from earth, stressing that he already knows how it will happen—if Christ tarries.
“I’m sure I have told you how I will go, if the Lord tarries,” he said. “I will go to church; it is going to be on a Sunday. I can tell you that. If you say, ‘how do you know?’ leave that out of the question. I will go to church, have a wonderful service, come back home, eat pounded yam and go.”
His statement drew loud cheers and affirmations from the congregation, especially after he declared, “Let me hear somebody say loud and clear, ‘I will never be sick again.’”
Pastor Adeboye also used the opportunity to clarify his position on prosperity messages, stating that he is more committed to preaching holiness than material wealth.
“Prosperity is yours. I know that there are some people who have been waiting for that so they can have something to criticise. That is all right. Everybody knows I’m not a prosperity preacher. I’m a holiness preacher,” he said.
The RCCG Convention continues through the weekend with thousands of worshippers in attendance from across Nigeria and beyond.
