Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the wedding ceremony of his nephew and international music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, following concerns raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the governor’s absence from the state.
According to Rasheed, Governor Adeleke departed Nigeria a few days ago aboard the family’s private jet to attend the wedding, which is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, this August.
“The Governor left for the United States to participate in the wedding ceremony of his beloved nephew, the global music icon David Adeleke, known to the world as Davido,” the statement read.
He extended an invitation to members of the opposition and the general public, saying those unable to attend physically could join virtually to share in the joy of the occasion.
Rasheed clarified that Governor Adeleke had not embarked on any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022, describing the current trip as brief and family-related.
“For this current trip, the Governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions,” he said.
The statement also assured residents that governance was not on hold, as the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, is supervising state activities in the governor’s absence.
Governor Adeleke is expected to return to the country shortly after the ceremony.
