The United Kingdom has announced it will begin issuing electronic visas (e-Visas) for Nigerians applying for study and work permits starting July 15, 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement by the British High Commission in Nigeria, which described the move as part of efforts to modernise the UK’s immigration system.
Under the new arrangement, successful applicants will receive a secure e-Visa online instead of a physical visa sticker in their passports.
However, applicants must still visit Visa Application Centres for biometric data. Those who do not require physical vignettes will get their passports back the same day.
“This marks a significant step in the UK Government’s transition to a modern, digital immigration system,” said Onyinye Madu, spokesperson for the British High Commission.
Dependents and visitors, however, will continue to receive physical visa stickers until further notice.
The Chargé d’Affaires, Gill Lever, said the initiative will make the process more secure and convenient for students, workers, and families.
