A frontline member of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for setting machinery in motion for the recruitment of another set of 1,800 teaching and and non-teaching staff into the state secondary schools.
Faparusi, a former Commissioner for Public Utilities in Ekiti State, averred that the recruitment would further propel the state to the forefront of educational ladder in the country, with that cadre being ridded of dearth of competent personnel that can effectively drive the strategic sector.
The state government, on Monday, began the conduct of examinations for the thousands of applicants that applied to take up teaching job in the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission.
Commenting on the recruitment process, Faparusi commended Governor Oyebanji’s glowing zeal and unbending dedication to fortify the education sector through recruitment of qualified teachers to rejig the system.
The APC Chieftain fully backed the modality being adopted by the state government for the conduct of competency test for the applicants, saying this will ensure that those with intellectual gravitas are allowed to operate with the academic system at the secondary cadre.
Faparusi maintained that education remains the most thriving industry that had earned Ekiti respect nationally and globally, saying it will be a great disservice for that sensitive sector to be driven by mediocre.
“Let me commend Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his unyielding commitment to build the human resources in Ekiti through qualitative education.
‘ I am thrilled that the governor had earlier midwifed the recruitment of over 3,000 teachers into primary and secondary schools and these were done through conduct of examinations to bring the right personnel on board and reduce youth unemployment rate.
“Making recruitment exercise more painstaking and rigorous is important, because it will help to inject a set of new bloods with the requisite intelligence to teach at the secondary school. Having the right people to handle that sector is important to Ekiti’s future and that of our children.
“Besides the poor education policy that needed to be reworked to suit the 21st century economy that is technical and technological driven, having unqualified teachers at the primary and secondary academic levels will greatly and dangerously hamper the development of education.
“I wholeheartedly support the conduct of competency test to select the would- be teachers to place merit over favouritism”, Faparusi stated.
The former federal lawmaker appealed to successful applicants to render the best services to the state, describing the teaching profession as more of a service to a nation and humanity, over and above any other consideration.
