President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has explained why members of the National Assembly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
Speaking at the APC National Summit held in Abuja on Thursday, Akpabio said the endorsement was a result of President Tinubu’s political wisdom and performance so far, which, according to him, has set Nigeria on the path of growth and development.
“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed Nigeria is on the right path. Nigerians can also see the results. Because you have handled a difficult job well, the people want to reward you with a second term,” Akpabio stated.
The motion to endorse Tinubu was moved by Akpabio and seconded by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abass.
Abass declared his support on behalf of all 109 senators, 360 members of the House of Representatives, as well as the 36 state assembly speakers and their members.
The National Assembly endorsement follows a similar move earlier in the day by the Progressive Governors’ Forum, led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who also declared Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Akpabio emphasized that members of the National Assembly and Nigerians at the grassroots were pleased with President Tinubu’s leadership, adding that the lawmakers had “never had it so good.”
