
Veteran Nollywood star, Chioma Chukwuka, has been named Best Lead Actress at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), thanks to her exceptional performance in the historical drama series Seven Doors.
Her role in the series was widely praised for its emotional depth and commanding screen presence, earning her the prestigious award in a tough category that included some of Nollywood’s top talents.
Other nominees in the category were Gbubemi Ejeye (Farmer’s Bride), Uzoamaka Onuoha (Agemo), Uche Montana (Thin Line), Uzoamaka Aniunoh (Phoenix Fury), Hilda Dokubo (Wives on Strike 3), and Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre).
This win further solidifies Chukwuka’s reputation as one of the most versatile and respected actresses in the Nigerian film industry.
The AMVCA event kicked off on Friday with the popular Cultural Day celebration, where guests turned out in colourful traditional attire, showcasing the richness of African heritage ahead of the main award ceremony on Saturday night.
The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, organised annually by MultiChoice, celebrates excellence in film, television, and digital content creation across Africa. This year’s edition was held in Lagos and broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels.
Winners are determined through a mix of public voting and decisions by a panel of industry judges. The awards recognised works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
This year’s top contenders included Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way, which all received multiple nominations, particularly in major categories such as Best Movie and Best Director.
For the Best Lead Actor category, nominees included Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising), showing the depth of talent in African cinema.
