Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency, Ekiti State in the next year National Assembly Elections, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has called for tolerance and issue-based campaign.
He made the call following the destruction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senatorial Campaign office in Ido Ekiti over the weekend
In a statement issued, the NDC House of Representatives Candidate said, “I have received with deep concern reports and pictorial evidence of the destruction of the Senatorial Campaign Office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ido-Ekiti, belonging to Dr. Funsho Ayeni, Senatorial Candidate of the ADC for Ekiti North.
“As a fellow candidate within Ekiti North, contesting for Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), I wish to express my firm solidarity with Dr. Funsho Ayeni and the entire ADC family in Ekiti State.
“I condemn in its entirety this act of political intolerance, vandalism and destruction. It is unacceptable, undemocratic and completely alien to the peace-loving character of Ekiti people.
“Elections must be a contest of ideas, policies, character and capacity to deliver, not a contest of violence, intimidation and destruction of property. We may belong to different political parties, but we are not enemies. We are brothers and sisters seeking the mandate to serve the same people.
“I wish to state clearly that:
Politics should build, not destroy.
Campaigns should focus on issues that matter to our people – jobs, security, education, agriculture and infrastructure for Ekiti North, not on attacks against opponents;
Tolerance must be our watchword before, during and after the elections. Elections will come and go, but Ekiti North will remain our collective home.
“I therefore join the ADC in calling on all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into this incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“I also call on all political parties, candidates, supporters and youths across Ekiti North to embrace peace. Let us campaign with decorum, market our manifestos, and allow the good people of Ekiti North to decide freely.
“My sincere sympathies go to Dr. Ayeni and the ADC. What affects one of us affects all of us in Ekiti North.
“We need peace to win together”. He concluded.
