The Ekiti State Police Command has commenced investigations into the alleged killing of a 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Onizeokaraga, in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, following a domestic altercation that reportedly escalated during a mediation session.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, is alleged to involve her husband, Ibrahim Sodiq, popularly known as Alfa Eleran, a meat seller. The suspect is currently at large.

According to family sources, the couple had been experiencing marital challenges and had agreed to a mediation at the residence of Mr. Lamidi Salawu, a family friend, in a bid to resolve their differences.
It was gathered that discussions during the mediation broke down, leading to a physical confrontation. The deceased allegedly sustained fatal machete injuries during the incident.
Family members said Ms. Onizeokaraga was preparing to travel to her sister’s residence in Idoani, Ondo State, as part of efforts to step away from the marriage. She was reportedly invited to the mediation venue on Wednesday morning.
The suspect allegedly fled the scene immediately after the incident. The deceased’s remains have since been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
Family sources confirmed that three persons, including Mr. Salawu, his wife, and the man who stood as the husband’s father during the wedding, have been taken into custody by the police to assist with investigations.
A family spokesperson, Mr. Lawrence Yusuf, alleged that the suspect also left with the deceased’s mobile phone, which the family believes may contain relevant information for investigators.
“We are calling on the police and relevant authorities to ensure that the suspect is apprehended and made to face the law. We seek justice for Kehinde,” Mr. Yusuf said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the incident. Efforts to reach the Command’s Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful.
Human rights and women’s advocacy groups in the State have called for a thorough and transparent investigation, and for perpetrators of gender-based violence to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Ekiti State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has previously reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence and urged citizens to report cases to security agencies and the appropriate helplines.
The police have appealed to members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward to assist the investigation.
