The Presidential Candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has described the people of Osun State as the heroes of democracy for their courage and resolve during the recently concluded governorship election in the state.
Dr. Hashim made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, at the weekend.

Commending the resilience of Osun voters, the Accord flag bearer said their determination to exercise their democratic rights, despite reported challenges, was decisive in the outcome of the election.
He noted that reports of violence and the alleged killing of more than 40 persons in the build-up to the poll could have suppressed voter turnout, but the people remained undeterred.
“The people of Osun stood firm with Accord. They demonstrated once again that they are not conquerable. Even in the face of intimidation, they chose to make their voices count,” Hashim said.
The presidential candidate traced Osun’s history of political courage, recalling the 2011 presidential election when Osun was the only state where Nuhu Ribadu of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, recorded victory despite national political pressure.
“This is the spirit of Omoluabi,” Hashim stated. “It is a people who value integrity, courage, and the freedom to make independent political choices.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Dr. Hashim expressed confidence that Osun voters would extend their support to Accord at all levels, Presidential, National Assembly, and State Assembly.
“I have no doubt that the people of Osun will stand with Accord in 2027. They have repeatedly shown that they cannot be compelled to surrender their democratic choice. We are confident that Osun will vote for Accord across the board,” he declared.
The Accord presidential candidate added that the party is building on the goodwill demonstrated in Osun to expand its national structure ahead of 2027.
