The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports claiming that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on May 27, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the electoral body clarified that no date has been set for the resumption of CVR or for the transfer and replacement of lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
INEC urged Nigerians to disregard what it called a “fake and anonymous statement” circulating on social media, assuring that any official announcement will be made through its verified platforms.
“In line with its tradition, the Commission will publicly announce the date for the resumption of the CVR at the appropriate time. Full details will be communicated via our official channels,” the statement read.
It would be recalled that in 2024, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, proposed a shift from using PVCs as the sole means of voter identification, suggesting the use of computer-generated slips alongside the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to modernise the process.
