Tragedy at Obudu Ranch: Four Seminarians Killed, Nine Injured in Crash

The sad incident occurred at Ikwette community, near the bottom hill of the Obudu Ranch, on Sunday. According to a statement signed by Mr. Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, the accident involved a bus conveying 13 seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Diocese who were on a tour of the resort.

Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure may have led to the crash.

“It is a very unfortunate incident that resulted in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.

Gill noted that the group was led by a Reverend Father and had just completed their tour of the ranch before the vehicle lost control at the bottom of the hill, outside the resort’s premises.

While extending heartfelt condolences, the Cross River State Government assured the public of its commitment to safety across all tourism locations, especially at Obudu Ranch.

“Safety is our utmost priority, and we will be reviewing all safety protocols to ensure the well-being of every visitor to the Ranch,” the government said.

The statement also urged visitors to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to follow all safety guidelines while visiting the state’s tourist attractions.
