The Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere-Ekiti, Prof. Babatunde Omojola, has commended the superlative performance of the University’s Female Handball Team at the just concluded Southwest Universities Handball Tournament (TITAN) 2026 held at the University of Ibadan where the team emerged champions.
Prof. Omojola gave the commendation during a formal reception held for the victorious team on Monday, 25th May, 2026.
Expressing delight over the team’s performance, the Vice-Chancellor described their success as a product of discipline, resilience, determination, teamwork and technical excellence. He noted with excitement that the team maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament.
Prof. Omojola praised the players for projecting the image of BOUESTI positively within and beyond the Southwest region, stressing that the achievement further demonstrates that the University’s pursuit of excellence extends beyond academics to sports and other extra-curricular engagements.
In recognition of their historic feat, the Vice-Chancellor decorated members of the team with their gold medals and announced cash rewards for players and officials. Each player received Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000), while the coaches were rewarded with Seventy-Five Thousand Naira (₦75,000) each. The Chairman of the BOUESTI Sports Committee, Dr. Olu Adeleye was also rewarded with One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000) in appreciation of his leadership and commitment to sports development in the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor further reaffirmed the commitment of the University Management to strengthening sports and extra-curricular activities through sustained investment in sporting facilities, athlete welfare and capacity development initiatives. He also announced that the names and pictures of members of the victorious team would be engrained in a special scroll for posterity.
The BOUESTI Female Handball Team emerged champions of TITAN 2026 after an unbeaten outing at the competition held at the University of Ibadan from 19th to 22nd May, 2026. The team secured victories against Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (19–10), University of Ilesa (26–12), University of Ibadan (23–9), and Lagos State University (18–14) in the final to clinch the championship title and resoundingly affirm their supremacy in the fast break game.
Members of the University community have continued to celebrate the team for bringing honour, pride, and distinction to BOUESTI through a remarkable sporting accomplishment that has further strengthened the institution’s growing reputation for excellence.
