The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed reports of attacks on schools across the state, describing them as false alarms intended to cause panic.
In a statement on Sunday, the command said it had noticed a disturbing trend in which unidentified persons spread false claims that bandits were attacking or planning to attack schools in several parts of Ekiti.

The affected areas include Ilawe-Ekiti, Ifaki-Ekiti, Oye-Ekiti, Omuo-Ekiti, Odo-Ado in Ado-Ekiti, Otun, Efon, Igbemo-Ekiti, and Ayetoro/Iloro High School. The false reports led students and pupils to flee their schools, leaving classrooms empty and creating unnecessary fear in the communities.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and security conscious but to verify information before sharing it. It warned that spreading fake news and false alarms constitutes a criminal offence under Sections 24 and 59 of the Cybercrimes Act 2024 as amended and the Criminal Code, respectively.
“Those found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
The police advised the public to disregard the trending false alarms, go about their lawful activities, and promptly report suspicious persons to security agencies.
The command assured residents of adequate security across the state and urged them to contact 08062355977 in case of emergencies.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, ANIPR.
