2027: Makinde holds closed-door Meeting with Kwankwaso After Bauchi Talks

Earlier in Bauchi, the governor held a closed-door discussion with Bala Mohammed and Seriake Dickson, where talks reportedly focused on emerging alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding to questions from journalists after the Bauchi meeting, Makinde dismissed suggestions that his political camp had aligned with the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party associated with Nyesom Wike.

Speaking further, the Oyo governor stated that he had previously disclosed attending a meeting involving Wike and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during which assurances were allegedly given about support for the President in 2027.

He maintained that those working with Wike’s group are backing Tinubu’s re-election bid, adding that Nigerians should assess the situation for themselves.

Emphasising his position, Makinde said while his camp does not fault anyone for supporting the President, those seeking such alignment should approach the appropriate group, insisting that his own strength lies with the electorate.

Accompanying the governor on the trip was Dickson, who recently exited the PDP and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Although no official statement has been issued regarding the objective of the Kano engagement, political sources indicated that the visit may involve consultations with Kwankwaso on potential alliances and strategies as the 2027 elections approach.
