Ekiti State Government has approved the immediate rehabilitation of 121 boreholes across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State with a sum of N159,542,787.33 (one hundred and fifty nine million, five hundred and forty two thousand, seven hundred and eight seven naira, thirty three kobo only).
Statement by the Commissioner for Information in the State, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun says the approval was part of the decisions taken at the meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Executive Council Chamber, New Governor’s Office, Ado Ekiti on Tuesday 12th March, 2024.
According to the statement, the job is to be carried out by the Ekiti State Small Towns, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency through Direct Labour and completed within two weeks.
“The project is being executed through a Performance for Result Financing World Bank supported programme,the Sustainable Urban Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (SURWASH) whereby the World Bank will disburse to the State a sum of nineteen dollars ($19.00) per person for the over thirty thousand (30,0000) citizens expected to consume the water.”
Similarly, the state government has also approved a sum of N133,707,507.14 for the renovation of the Agricultural Farm Buildings (phase II) at Erinfun, along Federal Polytechnic road, Ado-Ekiti.
The gesture is part of efforts of the present administration to make farming attractive to Youths and boost food production.
Mr Governor also announced the setting up an eight man committee on Food security headed by Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture and food security with a mandate to come up with strategy to mitigate food crisis.
The approvals amongst others were part of the decisions taken at the meeting of the State Executive Council.
