Political analyst and opposition coalition chieftain, Salihu Moh. Lukman, has disclosed that opposition leaders are holding consultations on how to unite against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Lukman named former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, Prince Adewole Adebayo and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke among those involved in the consultations.

He identified the politicians with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), respectively.
According to Lukman, the discussions are aimed at developing a framework for cooperation among opposition parties and exploring the possibility of presenting a common candidate against Tinubu in 2027.
He said the consultations were intended to build on earlier resolutions by opposition leaders and provide an opportunity to identify areas of agreement ahead of the general election.
“The consultations represent a practical step towards giving effect to those resolutions. They provide an opportunity for party leaders and presidential candidates to deliberate on the framework for opposition cooperation, identify areas of common ground and consider the steps necessary to advance a shared democratic agenda ahead of 2027,” Lukman said.
The consultations come as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with questions about opposition unity and candidate selection expected to feature prominently in discussions.
However, the statement did not indicate whether the participating politicians had agreed on a joint presidential candidate or settled on a formal arrangement for cooperation.
