Former US President Donald Trump has warned that America may carry out military strikes in Nigeria if the Nigerian government fails to stop what he described as the “killing of Christians.”
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said his administration would “immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria” and direct the Pentagon to prepare for possible military action against “Islamic terrorists committing atrocities against Christians.”
He wrote: “If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians! WARNING: The Nigerian government better move fast!”
Trump’s comments came after the United States included Nigeria among countries accused of tolerating serious violations of religious freedom.
The threat has sparked diplomatic concerns, with many observers warning that such rhetoric could escalate tensions and disrupt relations between the two countries.
Analysts in Abuja say Trump’s comments appear politically charged and could create unnecessary panic in a country already battling multiple security challenges across its regions.
The Federal Government has not yet issued a direct response to Trump’s military threat.
