Traditional Ruler Advocates Political Stability, Continuity For Ekiti’s Development

By Samuel Sunday

The monarch stated this while speaking with journalists during the June 20, 2026 governorship election, after assessing the electoral process and sharing expectations for the state’s future.

Oba Aderemi said the election had so far been peaceful within his domain, noting that residents conducted themselves orderly without security concerns.

“As far as my domain is concerned, there is absolute calm. The environment is peaceful and safe, and people are going about the exercise of their franchise without any problem,” he said.

Speaking on governance, the monarch said one of Ekiti State’s major challenges has been the absence of continuity in leadership. He stressed that the state has not fully benefited from long-term development plans because successive administrations have lacked stability.

According to him, many states across the country have recorded significant progress because governors were able to complete two terms in office, a privilege he said Ekiti has not consistently enjoyed since its creation.

The monarch said continuity in governance would promote stability, sustainability and the delivery of democratic dividends to residents irrespective of political affiliations.

On security, Oba Aderemi, who is also the Regional President of Occupational Safety in Nigeria, said security stakeholders have continued to work behind the scenes to safeguard lives and property across the state.

He explained that traditional institutions are collaborating with relevant authorities and deploying local mechanisms to prevent security challenges witnessed in some neighbouring states from spreading to Ekiti.

The royal father sympathised with communities that had recently experienced security breaches and expressed optimism that such incidents would soon become a thing of the past.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.

“We must be our brother’s keeper. When you see something, say something. If every community is secured, Ekiti State as a whole will remain peaceful and safe,” he said.
