Tinubu Seeks Turkey’s Support to Tackle Insecurity

The President made this known on Friday while receiving a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his residence in Lagos.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged CAN to partner with his administration in achieving national goals, noting that some security measures require time to yield results.

He said the country remains largely peaceful despite the challenge of vast ungoverned spaces, adding that insecurity remains a serious concern which the government is determined to overcome with collective support.

Tinubu explained that plans to establish community and state policing are underway, pending the completion of necessary legislative actions by the National Assembly.

The President also noted that acquiring military hardware is expensive and time-consuming, revealing that Nigeria is awaiting the delivery of four attack helicopters ordered from the United States.

He added that, in the meantime, the Federal Government has reached out to Turkey for additional support in strengthening Nigeria’s security capacity.

The move comes amid ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, following recent joint actions against terrorist targets in the North-West.

The Federal Government had earlier confirmed that recent airstrikes on terrorist hideouts were carried out in collaboration with the United States authorities.
