Tinubu Leaves Abuja Thursday for Japan, Brazil Visits

The President will make a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before heading to Yokohama, Japan, to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.

The conference, with the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation, improving business environments and institutions through private investment and innovation, and promoting a resilient and sustainable society for peace and stability.

While in Japan, the President will participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks, and meet with Japanese business executives investing in Nigeria.

TICAD, initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission and the World Bank, is held every three years alternately in Japan and Africa. The last edition was in Tunisia in 2022.

From Japan, President Tinubu will proceed to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

In Brazil, he will hold bilateral talks with his host, attend a business forum with Brazilian investors, and witness the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation between both countries.

The President will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials.
