President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Super Falcons of Nigeria following their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched their 10th continental title.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the team for their resilience and fighting spirit, which saw them come from behind to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final match played in Rabat.
“The Super Falcons’ spectacular performance tonight in Rabat, coming from behind to beat a spirited Moroccan side playing in front of a passionate home crowd, exemplifies the determination that defines the Nigerian spirit,” the statement read.
President Tinubu commended the players and technical crew for their hard work, dedication and tenacity, which, according to him, helped the nation to realise a collective dream.
“With hard work, dedication, and tenacity, you have achieved the mission the nation dreamed of and prayed for. The nation looks forward to welcoming our champions. Congratulations! Nigeria celebrates you,” the President added.
The Super Falcons’ latest victory further cements their status as the most successful women’s football team on the African continent.
