Tinubu Appoints Majekodunmi as New DG of Climate Change Council

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Majekodunmi takes over from Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who had served as the Council’s pioneer Director-General since its establishment in June 2024.

According to the statement, Majekodunmi is a seasoned environmental lawyer and climate finance expert with over 17 years of experience in renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.

She previously served as the Council’s Financial Adviser and played a key role in the development of Nigeria’s climate policies and international partnerships on environmental issues.

President Tinubu thanked Dr. Madueke for her committed service, noting her contributions in laying a strong foundation for the Council’s work.

The appointment of Majekodunmi, the statement added, reflects the administration’s commitment to tackling climate change as a key element of sustainable economic growth, security, and inclusive development.

As Director-General, Majekodunmi is expected to consolidate on existing frameworks and drive Nigeria’s climate agenda through strategic policy implementation aimed at building environmental resilience and unlocking green economic opportunities.
