Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi is mourning the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who died on Tuesday following a road accident in Delta State.
The deceased, a retired military officer, was reportedly involved in a traffic accident in Umunede and was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Agbor.

Ndidi’s club side, Besiktas of Türkiye, confirmed the incident in a condolence message issued on Tuesday through its official X handle.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said, while extending condolences to the midfielder and his family.
The club also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and expressed support for Ndidi during the difficult period.
Ndidi recently led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he scored his first international goal for the country.
While celebrating his headed goal against Tunisia during the group stage, the midfielder dedicated the moment to his late father and referenced his admiration for former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo.
Ndidi, who has often spoken about growing up with his father in military barracks, was born and raised in Lagos.
