RIVERS POLITICS: FUBARA JOINS NDC, CITES NEED TO RECLAIM STATE AHEAD OF 2027

By Precious Ireoluwa

Fubara, a relative of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, announced the move in Abuja after meeting with NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson and other party stakeholders. He described the NDC as “a moving train” and said the decision was driven by concern for Rivers State’s future amid ongoing political tensions.

“The soul of Rivers State is at stake,” Fubara said. He added that residents were mobilizing to take back their state in 2027 and expressed confidence that “Rivers will be OK” after the polls.

The defection comes as the APC concludes screening for its 2027 governorship aspirants in Rivers. Reports indicate the party’s screening committee disqualified 32 aspirants linked to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while clearing 29 lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Analysts say the move could strengthen the NDC’s grassroots presence in Rivers and the wider Niger Delta, as emerging parties attract politicians and technocrats seeking alternatives to the established order.
