Prominent Islamic cleric and revered Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has passed away, sparking widespread mourning across Nigeria’s Muslim community.
Early reports of his death began circulating on Thursday, prompting swift confirmations from close associates and public figures. Former presidential aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the development in a post on X, describing the cleric’s passing as a profound loss to the nation.

Ahmad wrote that the news was received “with a heavy heart and complete submission to the will of Allah,” noting Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s towering influence in Islamic scholarship and spiritual leadership. He offered prayers for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal mercy upon the deceased.
Further confirmation came from the scholar’s son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who told Daily Trust that his father had indeed returned to his Creator. Speaking from Madinah, he expressed gratitude for his father’s long and impactful life, saying, “Allah has done everything for us to spare the life of Sheikh till this time. Sheikh’s life was well spent. Alhamdulillah.”
He added that burial arrangements had not yet been finalised, noting that the family was considering either Abuja or Bauchi as the possible burial location.
As of Thursday morning, both the family and the Bauchi State Government were yet to issue an official statement on the scholar’s passing.
