LAGOS LG POLL: Chairmanship Aspirants To Pay N5.5m As APC Fixes Nomination Fees

The details were contained in the party’s election guidelines released on Tuesday and jointly signed by the state chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and secretary, Dr Adeola Jokomba.

According to the document, aspirants vying for chairmanship seats are to pay a nomination fee of N5 million and an administrative fee of N500,000. However, female aspirants will pay half of the nomination fee (N2.5 million) while retaining the same administrative charge.

For aspirants under the age of 40, the party has approved a 50% discount on the nomination fee, though the N500,000 administrative fee remains unchanged.

In a move to encourage inclusiveness, the APC waived nomination fees for persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), who will only be required to pay a reduced administrative fee of N250,000.

For councillorship positions, male aspirants are expected to pay N1 million as a nomination fee and N100,000 for administrative charges. Female aspirants will pay N250,000 for nomination and the same N100,000 administrative fee. Youths contesting councillorship will enjoy a 50% nomination fee discount, while PLWDs will be exempted from the nomination fee and pay only N50,000 for administrative purposes.

“There shall be no separate fee for vice-chairmanship positions,” the party stated, adding that all payments must be made via bank draft addressed to APC, Lagos State.

The party further clarified that chairmanship aspirants must present endorsements from five registered voters in their local government area or Local Council Development Area (LCDA), while councillorship aspirants must present 20 endorsements from registered voters in their wards.

All aspirants must be Nigerian citizens and meet the constitutional and educational requirements for public office. Chairmanship aspirants must be at least 30 years old, while councillorship hopefuls must have attained 25 years of age.

In addition, aspirants must show active membership and loyalty to the party and sign its Code of Conduct. Only those cleared by the Screening Committee will be eligible to participate in the party’s primaries.

The party also reminded all serving party officials seeking elective positions to resign at least 30 days before the election or primary.
