The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has denied reports claiming that he approved the alleged defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The denial followed growing speculation in recent days that Yusuf was planning to dump the NNPP for the APC, with reports on Tuesday night alleging that Kwankwaso had withdrawn his opposition and given his backing.

Reacting to the reports, Kwankwaso’s media aide, Mr Saifullahi Hassan, described the claims as false, misleading and completely unfounded.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Hassan said Kwankwaso remained firmly committed to the vision, ideals and principles of the NNPP.
He stressed that Governor Yusuf was elected on the NNPP platform and continues to be a member of the party.
Hassan said there was no time when Kwankwaso endorsed, supported or approved any alleged move by the governor to the APC.
According to him, any report suggesting otherwise amounts to a deliberate distortion of facts and should be treated with caution.
The NNPP also urged the public and the media to disregard the reports and rely only on verified and credible sources for accurate information.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal unity and dismissed the defection claims as mere speculation.
