The All Progressives Congress has secured another term as chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council after its candidate, Christopher Maikalangu, was officially declared winner of the council election.
Results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission confirmed that Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, scored 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid ballots to emerge victorious in the poll.

Figures released by the AMAC collation officer, Andrew Abue, showed that the African Democratic Congress placed second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party recorded 3,398 votes.
Electoral statistics provided at the collation centre indicated that 2,336 ballots were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 65,197, with 837,338 registered voters and 65,676 accredited participants.
Declaring the outcome, Abue stated that Maikalangu satisfied all legal requirements and was therefore returned elected as chairman of the council.
Breakdown of party performance revealed participation by multiple political platforms, with candidates of parties including the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the Young Progressives Party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party and others posting varying vote totals across the area council.
Reactions at the collation venue described the exercise as credible, with party agents commending the transparency of the voting and collation processes.
Observers noted that result sheets were duly endorsed by party representatives present, reinforcing confidence in the conduct of the election across polling units and ward centres.
The contest formed part of the wider area council elections conducted in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, where chairmanship and councillorship positions were contested.
