Ex-Lagos Deputy Governor Only Son Dies Suddenly

News of the tragedy emerged on Wednesday, with family sources confirming that the UK-based medical doctor passed away in Dubai after a surgical procedure whose details were yet to be made public.

Reports indicated that the outcome of the surgery was not expected to be fatal, leaving his family and associates shattered. He leaves behind his wife and children.

Sympathies have continued to pour in across the Lagos political space, especially within the All Progressives Congress where Orelope-Adefulire plays a leading role. Many described the loss as unbelievable and deeply painful.

A condolence statement issued by APC Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, captured the sombre mood in the party. Vanguard quoted him as saying the development was “a most dreadful tragedy for any parent” and that members of the party were still struggling to absorb the news.

Oladejo noted that the former deputy governor was widely admired. “Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire is an exceptionally good person. The entire APC is in mourning over this humongous tragedy. May his precious soul rest in peace,” he said.

Known fondly as “Mama Alimosho,” Orelope-Adefulire served as deputy governor of Lagos from 2011 to 2015 under former Governor Babatunde Fashola.

She now works as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals, a position she has held for two administrations following her reappointment in 2023.

Her public service career spans over two decades, including her tenure as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation from 2003 to 2011. She is also a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council, the highest policy body in Lagos APC, and a respected grassroots mobiliser in Alimosho.

The news of her son’s passing has cast a long shadow over Alimosho and the entire Lagos political community, where she commands deep loyalty and influence.
