The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a police sergeant after a video showing him behaving erratically while in camouflage uniform circulated on social media.
The command said the officer, who is serving at the Ikole-Ekiti Division Police Headquarters, was identified and taken into custody shortly after the video surfaced. He is said to be in stable condition.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered that the officer undergo psychological and medical evaluation ahead of disciplinary proceedings.
The command stated that the conduct shown in the video does not reflect the standards of discipline expected of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Commissioner of Police wishes to unequivocally state that the behaviour portrayed by the policeman in the video does not depict the standard discipline of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.
The command urged residents to remain calm and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring professional conduct from its personnel.
