EKITI 2026: NUJ Activates Situation Room To Protect Journalists, Counter Fake News

NUJ Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, said in a statement that the situation room is domiciled at the NUJ Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti. It will serve as a rapid-response centre for journalists covering the polls.

Babatuyi said the centre will track incidents of harassment, intimidation, or attacks on journalists during the election.

He noted that the initiative became necessary because fake news and disinformation have become potent tools to manipulate voters and inflame tensions during elections.

According to him, the situation room will work with fact-checking partners and media stakeholders to verify viral claims, correct false narratives in real time, and provide journalists with verified information for accurate reporting.

For enquiries, journalists and the public can contact the situation room on 0813 958 8218, 0803 514 1820, or 0803 410 5542.
