Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, on Tuesday led 17 local government chairmen, councillors, and PDP chieftains in a high-profile defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were received by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, who assured them of full integration and equal opportunity in the party. Among them were former Deputy Speaker Hon. Yekini Idiaye, former Majority Leader Hon. Nosa Nosayaba, and ex-PDP State Secretary Gabriel Oloruntoba.
Governor Monday Okpebholo hailed the move as a major boost, saying it signals strong momentum behind the APC’s development agenda and support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole welcomed Agbebaku back to APC, calling it a “homecoming,” and highlighting the party’s growing majority in the State Assembly — now holding 18 of 24 seats.
Speaker Agbebaku said the defection was a commitment to align with Governor Okpebholo for the advancement of Edo State.
