Former Delta State Governor and 2023 Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager after a marathon meeting that lasted over six hours at the Government House.
Senator Manager revealed that the defection was a collective decision involving key PDP figures in the state, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker of the House, the state PDP chairman, and all 25 local government chairmen.
Speaking on the development, Manager stated, “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”
According to him, the move to the APC followed wide consultations with critical political stakeholders and was taken in the best interest of the state’s future.
