Crisis has erupted within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the appointment of a leader into two major positions, while scores of other party faithful have not gotten anything.
A group within the party, under the umbrella of “Concerned APC youths” in a statement by its spokesperson, Tunde Awolumate, in Ibadan on Thursday, described the development as not only unfortunate, but greedy.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu, recently released a fresh appointment of about 70 party faithful, whereby Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle was nominated as the Executive Director, Commercial and Environmental Department for the South West Development Commission.
Before the nomination, the group said that the fresh nominee, Ibikunle was the Chairman, National Lottery Regulatory Commission during the Eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group further said that Ibikunle was also recently screened by the Senate as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau Commission.
This has led to serious grumbling and complaints of greed by party leaders and members, thereby accusing him of using his closeness with top hierarchy of the party to confuse the President in acting wrongly.
“From Oke-Ogun to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibarapa and Ibadan, it is complaints galore as to why a person would get 2 juicy big appointments, while hundreds are yet to get anything.
“This is a classical case of greed as groaned by an old progressive from Oyo town .
The statement raised questions on why a particular leader could be given two appointments, while some were yet to be recognised.
“We have no apology for APC’s naivety in handling political matters, because the party is suffering from the consequences of greed.
“This calls to question the capacity, experience and skills of APC leaders on political matters and we have no apology whatsoever for their naivety
“The APC, particularly in Oyo state is merely suffering from the consequences of the greed, lust for power and inordinate ambitions of its leaders.
“We have gradually turned ourselves to a laughing stock in the face of the ruling party in the state as they describe us as being excessive thirst for power and this calls for concern.
“Indeed, the party in Oyo state disdained for democratic norms, the rule of law and the sanctity of the party, coupled with its excessive thirst for power, portends grave threat to our survival and calls for serious concern among the party in the state.
