APC NWC Waives Screening Requirement for President Tinubu Ahead of Primaries

The decision was reached at the NWC’s 188th meeting held Tuesday in Abuja. In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the committee said Tinubu is deemed “duly screened” under the APC Constitution for the purpose of participating in the primaries.

The NWC said the waiver was granted under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, which empowers the committee to organize and supervise party primaries and, in special circumstances, issue waivers in the party’s interest.

The committee cited Tinubu’s endorsement by key party organs, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the National Assembly leadership, and resolutions passed at the APC National Summit on May 22, 2025. It also noted that Tinubu was previously screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.

“As the incumbent President and leader of the party, requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be redundant and unnecessary,” the statement said.
