APC Endorses Tinubu for Second Term, Declares Him Sole Candidate for 2027

The endorsement, made during the APC National Summit held in Abuja, comes as Tinubu marks the second anniversary of his administration.

President Tinubu, who was declared winner of the February 2023 presidential election, had his victory upheld in court despite legal challenges from his main rivals, who alleged electoral irregularities. He maintains that the election was free and fair.

APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, declared the endorsement on behalf of the party’s National Working Committee. “We hereby affirm the various endorsements and declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the APC for 2027,” he announced.

The party said it wants Tinubu to continue his economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidy and unification of the exchange rate, which the government insists are necessary to stabilise the economy.

While global financial institutions like the IMF, foreign investors, and credit rating agencies have praised the reforms, critics say they have triggered the worst cost-of-living crisis in recent history.

Several ministers also used the occasion to highlight achievements under the current administration, despite growing concerns over persistent insecurity, including terrorism and banditry.

Tinubu, who is constitutionally eligible for a second and final term, dismissed criticism and predicted more defections from the opposition to the ruling party. “That is the game,” he said.

Though opposition parties continue to criticise his policies, they are seen as too fragmented to pose a serious electoral threat at this stage.
