The recent actions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, raise serious concerns about the arbitrary use of police force against media personnel and innocent civilians.
Following his contentious experience at the PDP Caucus meeting, Wike has resorted to intimidating media representatives who were simply covering events at the PDP secretariat, especially those from Rivers State.
Under the direction of Ishi Samuel Aniskwe, Chairman of Ikwere Local Government, the police were deployed to harass and arrest innocent individuals at a local restaurant, disrupting their lunch.
These unjustly detained media workers now find themselves at Wuse Police Station, facing baseless charges orchestrated by those in power.
It is imperative for leaders like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure that such abuses of power are curtailed, allowing for peace and justice to prevail.
The youth of Rivers State are rightfully outraged by these unjust arrests and are mobilizing to demand accountability from both the local government chairman and his superior.
