Trump Reiterates Call for Canada to Become the ‘51st State’ Amid Trade Tensions

In a post on his Truth social media platform on Sunday, Trump claimed that the United States subsidizes Canada by paying “hundreds of billions of dollars,” referencing the trade deficit between the countries. He argued that without this financial support, Canada would struggle to remain a viable country.

“Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State,” Trump wrote, asserting that the move would result in “much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!”

This statement comes amid rising tensions following the imposition of heavy tariffs by the US on Canadian goods, which has led to a war of words between the two countries.
